December 14th
Sixteenth Day of Advent
In him also you were circumcised with a spiritual circumcision of Christ, by putting off the body of the flesh in the circumcision of Christ; when you were buried with him in baptism, you were raised with him through faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.
Colossians 2:11-12
Paul continues explaining how Jesus invites us to live into the fullness of Him. Paul makes a distinction between Jewish circumcision (law) and the spiritual circumcision (Christian faith). Both types of circumcision involve “putting off the body of flesh.” But, in the spiritual circumcision the “putting off the body of flesh” occurs, not through the blood of circumcision, but through the blood of Christ.
When we believe in Jesus and respond in obedience (spiritual circumcision), Jesus makes us complete in Him. Jesus makes us new creatures, raised from the dead, alive with new life, growing in faith and in love. And in baptism…
We are buried with Christ.
We are raised with Him.
Jesus did the work for us.
Jesus shed his blood for us.
We are no longer under the law.
Through faith in the power of God who raised Him from the dead.
We are raised with Him from the dead.
We are alive in Christ!
For us, because He loves us, Jesus shed the glories of heaven for a humble stable. In Jesus, we are alive! Jesus offers us true joy, life abundant, completeness, and fullness in Him.
You have come to the fullness in Him.
Colossians 2:10
Joy to the world, the Lord is come
Let earth receive her King Let every heart prepare Him room
G. F. Händel / Isaac Watts
Joy To The World
What must we do to prepare Him room? Are we living into this life of true joy, abundance, completeness, and fullness? The joy of the world is coming… let us spend time abiding in his presence, preparing our hearts for the King.
