Christmas Eve
And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Colossians 3:17
Christmas Eve. The Advent Wreath’s center candle will be lit signifying the arrival of the newborn King. As we sing Silent Night, the congregation will share the candle’s light throughout the congregation, lifting the light upward, the light of Christ piercing the darkness. He is here. Emmanuel, God with us.
This baby had overlooked the universe. These rags keeping him warm were the robes of eternity. His golden throne room had been abandoned in favor of a dirty sheep pen. And the worshiping angels had been replaced with kind but bewildered shepherds...
.. Meanwhile the city hums. The merchants are unaware that God has visited their planet. The innkeeper would never believe that he had just sent God into the cold. And the people would scoff at anyone who told them the Messiah lay in the arms of a teenager on the outskirts of their village. They were all too busy to consider the possibility.
God Came Near

Jesus became flesh for those in the humming city, for the unaware merchants, the innkeeper, the lost people… for those who did not know….
Paul admonishes the Colossian people to do everything in the name of the Lord. Why? Why should we do everything in the name of the Lord? In Joining Jesus on His Mission, Greg Finke encourages us to open our eyes to God’s work around us. Open our eyes to those in the humming city, to the unaware merchants, the innkeeper, lost people… to join Jesus on His mission. Do everything in the name of the Lord… so, through our witness, the light of the newborn King continues to pierce the darkness. So that, as we sing, we also live in a way that shines the light for those that don’t know.
Silent night, holy night All is calm and all is bright Round yon virgin, mother and child Holy infant, so tender and mild Sleep in heavenly peace, ooh Sleep, sleep in heaven, heavenly peace
Christ the savior is born, he's born Christ the savior is born

Silent Night
As we lift our candles, let us open our eyes to the lost world around us. Tonight, let us worship Him and carry His light out into the broken world.
